What to Wear for Summer Family Photos | Outfit Inspiration for Families
Choosing outfits for family photos shouldn't be stressful. In fact, my favorite approach is to start with one outfit you love and build everyone else's look around it.
For this example, I started with Mom's dress in navy blue. Navy is one of my favorite colors for family sessions because it's flattering, timeless, and photographs beautifully in every season.
Once Mom's outfit is selected, pull colors from her look and coordinate the rest of the family in lighter complementary shades. Think cream, white, light blue, sage green, or tan.
One important tip: try to avoid putting family members who will be standing next to each other in the same color. Mom and Dad are often side by side, so if Mom is wearing navy, Dad might wear light blue or cream. The same goes for siblings. A little contrast helps everyone stand out while still looking coordinated.
A Few Things to Avoid
Matching everyone in the exact same color
Large logos
Neon colors
Busy patterns on multiple family members
Athletic shoes (unless they're part of the look)
