How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session | Apex, NC Studio Guide

Preparing for your newborn session doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

As a newborn photographer in Apex, NC, my goal is to create a calm, relaxed experience for both you and your baby. With just a little preparation ahead of time, your session will flow beautifully.

When to Schedule Your Session

Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first 2–3 weeks after your baby is born. Most families book during their second or third trimester to ensure availability around their due date.

What to Bring to Your Newborn Session

You don’t need to bring much, but having a few essentials will help keep your baby comfortable throughout the session.

Please bring:

  • Diapers and wipes

  • A warm blanket

  • Swaddle blankets (avoid textured fabrics, as they can leave marks on baby’s skin)

  • A pacifier (very helpful, even if your baby doesn’t typically use one)

  • A bottle with formula or pumped milk

Having a bottle available is especially helpful, as we may need your baby a bit more full than usual to keep them relaxed and comfortable for posing.

How to Prepare Your Baby Before the Session

  • A little preparation before you arrive can make a big difference.

  • Try to keep your baby awake for 1–2 hours before your session

  • A bath beforehand can help keep them awake a little longer

  • Dress your baby in something easy to remove, like a zip-up or snap-front sleeper

  • Avoid outfits that need to be pulled over baby’s head

  • Feed your baby a full feeding right before leaving your home

If possible, please bring a bottle of formula or pumped milk. This can be quicker than nursing during the session and is helpful if your baby just needs a small top-off to settle.

What to Expect During Your Session

Newborn sessions take place in my Apex, NC studio and include access to a curated collection of wraps, headbands, and props. Every session is styled to create a cohesive and timeless look, so you don’t need to worry about bringing outfits for your baby.

A Simple Tip to Remember, the most important thing you can do is relax.

Newborn sessions are designed to be slow, gentle, and baby-led. I’ll guide you through the entire process so you can simply enjoy the experience.
